So it has been done! Singleplayer maps have been converted to work in a multiplayer environment! Not only that but the first ever LAN Multiplayer Campaign for Halo 2 has been played.
The next steps I think would be to create a new map-pack to take advantage of this new breakthrough.
I believe our goals should be as follows:
Create a Mainmenu that is tailored to take advantage of the new maps.
Create a complete "original" map pack of all halo 2 single player maps.
Anybody wit knowledge relevant to this project, or wanting to get involved pleases pot in this thread so I can contact you, and so we can get a discussion going.

I'd be happy to start making the maps multiplayer friendly. I'd have to get some more knowledge though, as I only know the basics.
