Halo: Online

Post by Prey »

Hi All (I can't believe this place is still around!)

I came across 'Halo: Online' today, an upcoming PC game that will be released only in Russia. They've released a beta or alpha or something and straight away some modding sites have popped up:

http://www.reddit.com/r/HaloOnline/
https://forum.halo.click/

They have a pretty active modding community going from the looks of things (40 users online right now whaaat). They've got apps that read .map files and show tag structures and I even see pff-o-matic has made an appearance.

Reading through some of the posts reminds me of the heydays of halomods. Is this a resurgance of halo modding?

Anyway I thought I'd come see if this site is still active to spread the word! Thoughts?

Edit: "Halo Online is an Free-To-Play and PC exclusive game based on the Halo 3 (MCC) engine."

A Wild Prey Appeared!

Hey man, hows things?

I was aware of Halo: Online though hadn't really looked into it, but I know it uses the Halo 3 engine.
I don't imagine any of this old crowd will be jumping ship any time soon =P

In other news, check out my awesome sauce:

Hi XZodia good thanks, yourself?

I just played some halo online, its pretty good actually (and supports xbone/360 controller). It's very alpha-ish but the gameplay is fine (has about 5 maps).

Lobby looks cool too:

Mod looks good xzodia and so do the tools. Perhaps try seeing if you can get them to work with halo online? Probably would get a lot of attention/feedback from the larger active community there. Not sure if the game has any AI capabilities in it yet though.

I'm great thanks, but far to busy to consider any Halo: Online modding.

Oh, to have a decent sized user base, a stable network, tools to mod and time to play... Most of my mods involve simple meta edits, so they would probably port fine to H3.

I wonder why it's Russia only.

They do have meta editing and bitmap extraction/injection and model stuff from what I've seen, via the 'DarkToolKit'

One of the screenshots:

With the game itself, they've managed to get custom code running inside it, and added an IRC chat overlay and a server browser that gets brought up by pressing F11. The server browser itself is a separate program that is just a frameless browser, which directs to this github page: http://thefeeltrain.github.io/

The github page on it's own is really impressive; it looks like a native in-game GUI but in reality it's all html and javascript. Source for those interested.

Does the Darktoolkit support injection? From what I've read it only supports extraction.

Hi Thrasher no there is no injection at the moment. Looks like it's still in the works atm.

That video Jackson pretty much covers everything I think! Forge has been updated/modded now though to work on all maps.

Also AI is possible: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhFaQfw ... e=youtu.be

Got the chance to play this, and it really is cool. The game looks really nice, and runs very well on my PC. If this game gets more popular, and modding tools more powerful, I'll try my hand at making content for it.
