Modeling Tutorials
Would anybody like to know how to model in CATIA or AutoCAD? I think it would be cool to have the community try to teach the others how to do more advanced stuff via videos.
If this community pulled in some really informative tutorials or anything from models, to meta, to map building, etc. i think this community would benefit from it greatly.
Any ideas?

Re: Modeling Tutorials
You better learn an app like Maya or 3DS or Blender(which is free, its only about 10mb app and runs smooth).
If you wan to use blender, you may get affraid because of its interface full of buttons but in fact you're only gonna use a few, and for whatever app you use first thing to do is learn shortcuts, for modeling its even more useful.
Download blender: http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/
Here is a list of tutorials:

Blender keyboard shortcuts:

Here some good Video Tutorial, watch "Interface Concept" and 3D Viewport

Modeling and texturing:

Keep in mind that your models are going to be used in a video game, so don't apply subdivisions (subsurf, means model smoothing by adding more mesh) since you need to keep your model to a low polygon count.
When you model always try to avoid polygons(faces) which are formed of more then 4 vertexs(points).
Once you have your model done and the uvmap done too you can export it to obj.
You mat need to import it into milkshape to set the materials and also so its compatible with entity model injector.

Re: Modeling Tutorials
CATIA and AutoCAD models can be converted to OBJ using 3ds max, works great, my cataia models r very high model, but once i weld the verts in misfit, it cuts the poly right down

Re: Modeling Tutorials
But these apps are not meant to create models for game since CATIA is hi poly and autoCAD is for archithecture and landscapes, welding vertrices on an another app to low poly a hi poly model is not the proper way...

If you weld vertrices from a hi poly model all you get is a crap model with fucked up uv btw, its not the proper way...

I used to mode the way you do but then I tried plane modeling, at first it was a bit annoying but I realized how much easier it was to create custom shapes and my models' file size became at least 1/4 their size.Dragonfire wrote:I'll model my way, u model ursJacksonCougar wrote:It is still wrong, a waste of time, and ass backwards.

Re: Modeling Tutorials
I hope to be going to a Vo-Tech school next year, half the school day I will go to a different school, the class I applied for was graphical design, which is essentially a 3D modeling class.. but there is a variety of things i can do in the class some people make cars the entire year, others buildings, some mix it up, I hope to learn how to use the programs and then when i get my nicer computer I will have some know-how to use these programs that I will of course..acquire... but I believe the student are graded, not by quality, but by how much they improve over time, so I will need to take a usb drive to and fro so I may lower the poly count if I wish to implement them into halo2
