Halomods coming back

Post by Grimdoomer »

Over the past few days there has been a topic in the Cafe about kornman bringing halomods back. That topic has been removed.

I am going to address the situation. Kornman is bringing back Halomods. Halomods is being brought back to show that after all these years; after all the forum merges, after all the times the database has been destroyed and every link was broken, after every time the forum crashed, we still have something to show for it—instead of a dead domain.
Don't snort the magic, we need it for the network.

Well, at least I have an answer to that topic's original question. I might or might not hang out there, only reasons I am here to help out where I can and because my old modding buddies are here.

Though I do look forward to seeing how the new Halomods is ends up.

Considering that another topic was made stating what we already know, that had to have been the worst plan ever, considering it's very much in sight.

My question is, is there any other information about this? In terms of how the boards will be setup and what not? Kinda curious if the Halomods we knew will still feature other gaming sections and any of the older material. Anyone got a link to something posted by Korn about this. I'm kinda gettin all excited again!

I never saw any official post about it, I just saw that the halomods domain was bought(shown by the placeholder webpage) and a Whois search showed it was Kornman who owned it.

No official information has been posted yet as we've only had the domain for about a month now and are working on developing the site instead of just slapping some silly phpBB install on it and saying "lol, look, mods of halo". I will say that we're not just reposting the forum db. This is a full scale reboot dedicated to Bungie/Halo games. However, that's not to say that I won't figure out a way to eventually get a read-only forum up with the original halomods threads and file collections (the db and files are all about 10gigs, so not high on my to-do list).

Nice stuff Korn! Does this mean you will also be coming back to your modding roots for all things Halo? I'd like to see what you could do now with all the games after all the years of playing with them. Perhaps some new things for H2X and H2V?

Looking forward to it. Maybe if it gets active enough again, I'll come back and mod every once and a while.

For now I'll just say that I intend to give every Blam based game attention. Things which are more accessible to end-users (eg, modifications to PC game platform) will always come first initially though.

I'm hoping that it will attract a respectable sized community again (if anything, it should at least bring what is left under one umbrella). We have the resources to make (ourselves and the community) some good content, but it all really relies on the community members being competent at using the site tools we have in place to produce quality resources (eg, tutorials).

I foresee some resistance in the future. I'm going to be pushing pretty hard on getting everyone under the same knowledge and terminology. Some people are reluctant to change. You can't be ignorant in a self sustaining modding community though.

The current support staff is basically back down to just another guy and myself. So we're just focusing on core content to the site and features, leaving some of the "extra" goodies we had in mind for after we open the doors and hopefully get some more competent staff members.

i r c0mp3t3nt canz i be admin?

Anyways, I was just modding Halo2 the other day, I do have to say I do miss the old times.

As this HaloMods will be quite different from the original, I will try to help with it, as I still feel like I owe something to the Halo community(I came up with many mod ideas, but never completed them.). Sadly though, I am a Halo2x modder, I'm not sure how useful I would be as most people would be looking for Halo3/Reach modding.

Anything you need help with, let me know and I'll try to help out.

I wouldn't mind staffing. I'd like to think I know what I'm doing. Eh, but I don't even mod anymore. Reeech.

Haha, when a discussion of staffing comes up, everyone jumps at the opportunity. Not that I can complain... I was going to do the same thing.

Good luck Kornman. I would very much enjoy seeing HaloMods come back, successfully.

I would love to see a community come together again on a grande scale and make some amazing things. Not that Remnantmods has not had its fair share of success, but let's face it: we live up to our name. When Halomods comes back I look forward to contributing in whichever ways I can find and my life allows me to.

Yeah I would like to have a unified terminology and knowledge base. Kornman, do have a white page or wiki being worked on?

Having to hold off the wiki until post-launch. I never got in touch with any seasoned wiki developers/maintainers after I posted what basically boiled down to a "help wanted" ad on HBO. I don't want to do a wiki unless I can do it right and fully utilize the power of mediawiki (eg, categories, templates/stubs, etc).

As far as white papers go, I'm working on some stuff in MS Visio and powerpoint. I've done videocasts using powerpoint projects (my own "Vidocs" for OpenSauce) I've done in the past and will probably do it again for future slide creations. Plain old text and a few colors here and there are piss-poor training aids.

Halomods is reopening!

While the site is still being worked on (modding is srs bsns), we'd like to get users on board to not only help with the direction but also hopefully help with content. Our online community is IP.Board based, so we support forums, blogs, downloads, content, tutorials, etc.

If you're interested in Halo modding, check out our opening statement, sign up and enter the user lounge, etc.

We're currently just a two man operation right now (as detailed in the opening statement) but we're always looking to bring aboard quality help to produce and manage site content faster (especially if you're wiki savvy!).

We have a help wanted thread, but if you (Gary or anyone) feel there is something you can bring to the table (active moderation, etc) that isn't listed there, just send one of us a PM so we can take a vote/discuss bringing you on board.
