I was referring to the rendering engine. The game will apply the full 180* smoothing or no smoothing. All you have to do is sheer off the faces into groups. You can see this in nearly all Bungie-made models. The injector doesn't control the smoothing, only gives it the correct tangents so the shine is facing the proper direction.

180? by default i work on 60, you sure there's not way to set it to a different angle for all?

No, the engine sets the angle to max for most models, you can only control the smoothing by moving faces into another mesh group.
There probably are values to change this, but I haven't seen any models that use less than max smoothing, they just split the faces of into multiple groups.

The injector just calculates the tangents and shit so the specular and what not shines in the right direction. It has no control over how much smoothing it gets.

Much better but now the gun needs to be moved to the right a bit.

So i have been making some models for Team Fotress 2, and i have learned after doing the models... that in order to look better, there's something called "smoothing groups" or whatever, its something Demonic knew so the models look better but i think none of us really knew how to do it on the 3D apps, now i know, here's a test with the TF2 dispenser model.

Obiviously Click has figured that out too his halo reach rifle looks perfect, unless its the shader? xD

I have disconnected all the triangles from half of it, so one side looks good and the other has bad smoothing, its just the game smoothing the polygons as a whole, in fact 3D apps do this too.

The only thing that bothers me now is that its too dark, but that's probably just the shader or the mode.

So it isn't really the model injector causing the problem, though might still need some improvement, i have to test with others shaders.

Haha! those are great! And yes, I was able to use and remove smoothing groups where I needed it. On the handle for the left hand I left it because it made it look round instead of a octagon. At your models, They do look a little dark, either mess with your shader or place them in a lighter spot in the map.

Eh, no I said that you could, but then decided to try it out myself. I still never got around to doing it. If you really want to, you can have it... I will send it to you later if you want to.

For something else. The reach style is legit. There is a lot more detail and it just looks way better then the original h2 smg.
