The Future Of the Human Race
I have ideas of what the future should be, I'll say mine, but if you have one, go ahead and say it, if not, comment on one.
Mine:
I Believe we need to expand the reach of the human race, how? you might ask. Space.
By going out side of our own solar system, we can't have the only planet like ours, there must be more.
I think we should build Space ships, about the size of the UNSC Pillar of Autumn, why? because it would need enough room for hundreds, maybe thousands of people, Plant life for air, fuel, and many other things.
The power plants could be, Solar and Nuclear, both would be able to power the ship.
We do need a good way to "drive" the ship, not sure how we should do it, we need something that doesn't need too much fuel and we need to reach high speeds.
We also need to reach high-speeds so it won't take so damn long just to get out of our own solar system.
I Believe this is the only way that the human race can ever continue, The earth that we live on is only so big, and can only support so much.
There's Many other things I wish to add, but later.

Stupid idea which is currently so far beyond current technology that you couldn't comprehend it.

How is it stupid?
This planet is going to reach it's limit someday, and we are the ones pushing it.
And how is it beyond current technology? If we really needed to, i bet we could do it.

No, people higher up with attitudes just like yours are the reason it wouldn't work.xzodia wrote:Stupid idea which is currently so far beyond current technology that you couldn't comprehend it.
(I don't know why we would need one either but you guys don't seem to understand the pointlessness of your 'it will cost too much/use the money for other things' arguments.)
It could quite easily be built if politics didn't get in the way; ever heard of the ISS? So far it has cost the U.S. about 30 Billion dollars, we import more than that from France alone each year. Tell me, why is the Space station being criticized for being costly when we spend more money each year on things with truly negative impacts to us? The U.S. is screwed up, live with it or move to Canada.

Re: The Future Of the Human Race
The earth is no where near reaching its limits. And we are definately not running out of room. We may be nearly at 7 billion people, but that isn't nearly half the story. China has a fertility rate of 1.3% meaning for every family 1.3 children are born (some people will break that 1 child only law and be fined or otherwise have a special reason for it) Which means in due time, china will have a rapid decrease in its population and they will lift the child limit. Next up about to surpass china is india. This is a lower developed country. Which means they are rapidly catching up with the rest of the world. Health care is not nearly as good and most children are not expected to live through their childhood. This causes families to have a much higher fertility, because they want their sons to take care of them when they are elders. This is the rate which makes the worlds population go boom. Eventually however, and it is already happening, this fertility rate ever so decreases as the country modernizes
It's like japans crisis. Their elder population exceeds their worker population. Citizens are paid to have children either monthly or yearly.
I hope that somewhat made sense.. In short, the worlds population balances out and isn't uncontrollably exploding. A little fact to go along with that, you could fit the entire worlds population into colorado if everyone had 1 square meter to themselves.

Would you like to live in under a square meter to yourself?
Any way, still, Earth is still not unbreakable.
If its not going to be from too many people, there's still many other reasons, I'll try to think of some later, tired now(1:30 AM)

People need to think about the here and now, and not to a fantasy future. We have real problems that we need to deal with "down here".

In 40 to 50 years, at this rate, we will no longer have fossil fuels for oil. We use oil for everything we see: plastics, rubber, food transportation, foods, transportation, etc ...
I would be more concerned about trying to accomplish your own goals as fast as you possibly can than worry about space exploration. The American Dream is about to die.

Re: The Future Of the Human Race
Christians believe the Rapture is imminent--very soon. Scientists have made the connections between the fallin civilizations in world's history and in our country--we are clearly next. Sorry to be a dooms day-er, my environmental science teacher has been revealing some frightening facts about our world since school has started.
He urged us that we MUST complete our dreams as soon as possible for things are going to change. We are apparently on the peak of human life; everything is supposed to go down hill from now, from what I understand. Imagine an abrupt stop of gasoline. People will starve. People do not know how to grow their own food. People will quit their education to find food. Food will be so scarce.
I have made an agreement with myself that I will take classes in college to teach me how to make my own food and survive off the land. Viva la South America! I'm going to move all the way to the bit of land closest to Antartica and surf with the whales and penguins till my heart stops. hahaha, who wants to join me?! Don't be down by this information. The world hit the bottom when the industrial revolution hit. hahaha, BALLLIN!! Jim Jones is frikken hilarious!

They are but we are so used to get everything so easy with this consumer society that if one day there's not markets and shopping some people will go mad instead of looking for solutions which are survival in nature lulz.

Mmmm, I'll go there when everyone dies
But I don't believe in this "the world is coming to an end" deal.. We'll find a way. Always have. Gas is still a very common resource and is in no way about to be depleted. Gas is used all over the world every day of every second. There is a massive amount of it...

Re: The Future Of the Human Race
I've had a little time to think.
I'm skeptical about DoorM4n's portrayal about future life. To me, it would probably involve the collapse of the government and economy.
But hey, our economy is already down the drain. And who knows what the next president is going to do?
Haha, maybe the process has already begun! We just have to wait for gasoline to deplete and the cycle is complete!
And WOAAAAH. Just realized, in that 40 - 50 year span that we lose oil, according to DoorM4n, I'll be, hopefully, in charge of my own family. If I really have no idea what to do. I'm comin' down there, DoorM4n. You better be ready to teach me how to surf, if we're not too old for it
Question though, how do we live off the land in Antarctica? I can't imagine that many plants grow, and I'm not much of a fan of raw fish...

Re: The Future Of the Human Race
I'm glad some of you guys don't have the negative facts that I have been given. The information my teacher gives me scares the living day lights out from me. I hope he is wrong, and he hopes he is wrong too. Here is some information about Alaska and oil if your interested. If we were to stop getting oil from the Middle East right now and use only the oil in Alaska we will only get 7 weeks of oil. We simply use too much oil too quickly. I love how you stated the idea of believing that humans can adapt better than we think. I wish I could meet up with you guys personally so I can talk instead of type cause I don't get my thoughts out very well in typing. They say that we only have 50 years of oil left in the WORLD. If you get the chance read "Tragedy of the Commons" it explains that technology will not fix any problems. Technology fixes problems temporarily for it holds the problems till later. I may scan some information or get a website to give you guys some information pretty soon. It is not to scare you, it is to get you to think ahead. My plan is to work my butt off in school, become educated, learn how to live off the land like the Indians through school education(not joking at all about this), get money in my political career, move to Austin, Texas, get married, live on my feet. I will have to explain what I mean "live on my feet" it is a bit more than you may think.Aumaan Anubis wrote:I've had a little time to think.

Oh and I mean, live in South America on the beaches. Not in Antarctica just close to it. I am going to travel, make my own food, surf, and raise a family on the land. Talk about a lifestyle change. Surfing all day and making my own food!

I absolutely love that you said that. It is a very uplifting statement. It is very refreshing to be honest. Is it ok if I intentionally say this to people from time to time? I seriously love how you said stated that. I feel like I have been renewed for some reason.Aumaan Anubis wrote:I'm banking on the idea that humans are more adaptable than we think we are.

I just think that those with common sense will have the skills necessary to survive, even if they don't know how to live off the land.
I also think that we'll be far less gasoline-dependent in the far future. For instance, France has created a car(though not commercially available) that runs on pure air. Gasoline will help you go faster, but the air is actually enough.
I just think that we'll be able to get through it allright.

Nuclear power is our Main thing, only idiots dis-like it, that or they just don't understand it.
Safe, powerful, is not bad for nature.
Just because it uses something a bomb has in it doesn't mean its bad, your fire alarms have a from of it in them, read the back of them, your see.
AND NO ONE say anything about the plant in Russia, they are very brave but were stupid when it came to nuclear power... they had to do many things to get that to happen, even when it did its not like it was a nuclear bomb going off...
Yes we need an alt of power, we need something that can hold us off till we can make enough nuclear plants.

Re: The Future Of the Human Race
Yea I've seen the video for it. It runs on compressed air and he made and engine with very little resistance. But the problem is not looking for new fuels or making new cars. It's the government. What no one seems to understand is that the government is money hungry even though they have more money then they will ever spend. Even if these cars get finished and ready for the public, the government wouldn't let them be sold. Because believe it or not the government gets money off of every gallon of gas you buy. The government gets money off of everything, and if there is something that could save the human race from whatever, but they would loose money, they wouldn't let it be sold.
So if we ever want to get any where, it would start with making our government a little less corrupt.

compressed air is all fine and well but you still need energy to compress the air...and you'd need an awful lot of air to travel any real distance...
