Re: The Official Rant Thread
Why do so many companies go out and buy workstation graphics cards for 3D designing when they could just buy a card labeled for desktop graphics for half the price and get more then twice the performance? Even if they have to buy from a specific vendor they would still save money and get better performance. I don't think I've had even one PCIx card that couldn't run 3ds max smoothly.

my old P4 integrated run 3ds max fine, but i think ur missing the point.....usually they get expensive cards so it doesnt take 10hrs to render a 1mil-poly object...xxpenguinxx wrote:Why do so many companies go out and buy workstation graphics cards for 3D designing when they could just buy a card labeled for desktop graphics for half the price and get more then twice the performance? Well, for the first time in a long time, I plugged my 360 into live, forgetting that the fall update was out.
And I just have one thing to say...
Microsoft rapped and gay-a-fied my xbox.
Couldn't they at least of made more themes? so it could look less... kid-ish...
They ruined it for all us hardcore gamers, now, my xbox looks like a god damn wii.

Well, I do know that there is normally a big difference in performance between a $200 card and a $600 card, but how much of a difference is there between a $600 card and a $2000 card?Dragonfire wrote:my old P4 integrated run 3ds max fine, but i think ur missing the point.....usually they get expensive cards so it doesnt take 10hrs to render a 1mil-poly object...xxpenguinxx wrote:Why do so many companies go out and buy workstation graphics cards for 3D designing when they could just buy a card labeled for desktop graphics for half the price and get more then twice the performance? They added looks and reduced performance. In the dashboard you have like 8 menus, 5 of which are nothing but adds.Gjsdeath wrote:Well, for the first time in a long time, I plugged my 360 into live, forgetting that the fall update was out.

If your internet connection drops to a crawl when these menus are loading, your xbox is likely to freeze. Mine does under those circumstances.
The xbox guide is horrid, instead of being able to change themes while playing, you have to do it from the dashboard.
It loads at the same speed if not slower than the old guide....and it takes up most of the screen center so you can't see what's happening if you're in a game.
The old dashboard made semi-efficient use of screen space. The new dash makes huge waist of screen space.
What they should have done is just simply allowed the 360 to accept user created dashboard setups.
For example: You sign into xbox.com, make your dashboard how you like with all the image files and what not. And when you sign into Live on the 360, the new dash is downloaded to the xbox.
The only thing about the new dash that is good is the new friends, messages, players, etc. menu as well as the party system.

i love those...someone took a 'remote control' to school once and was telling people to press the red button...it was kinda obvious...but i held the button down and told the kid it wasn't doing anything...then he was like "WTF?" then he pressed it himself...his expression was hilarious....
my only wish is that the good looking quality ones were cheaper...like fifteen dollars for one...

Re: The Official Rant Thread
First I get a month of horribly slow service from my ISP, Comcast. Now I have horribly slow service from Xbox Live.
I start up and sign in, it takes 5 fucking minutes to load the info on my friends list. The info being who's online, what they are playing, their gamer icons, etc.
I then select a message, the loading icon comes up, and after about a minute the console freezes.
I start it back up, sign in, it freezes when the password window comes up.
Start it up, sign in and start up Call of Duty. I get to the MP menu, it tries loading my stats and locks up. I bring up the guide and try existing to the dashboard, freezes in the loading screen.
Start it up a fourth time, sign into my profile, a Gold account mind you, which is paid for till September.
I select a party invite, chose to join and it says I need a fucking Gold account to do so. (>o<)
I shattered my controller against the floor. The plastic left on the controller is perfectly warped. I still haven't found all of it yet. (¬_¬)
The rest of the night I have huge troubles doing anything message related, though I could play many matched of W@W with no issues.

Indeed, it was only shit when accessing anything that required the LIVE service. Messages, friends list, etc.
I was able to join and play W@W matches with no more issues than the usual.

I feel disappointed that Eragon, the series wasn't made into an MMORPG. I know that there'd be tons of hurdles to overcome, such as the fact that there'd be tons of riders, how the spell system would work, and maps, and whatnot, but I really really feel like having an MMORPG of Eragon.

No, it did freeze. When it's not frozen and you turn off the console, the screen fades and center LED on the power button immediately turns off as the screen fades.
When it's frozen, it (screen and LED) stays on for like 3 seconds then the console shuts off.

The same thing happens when your console overheats. I'm not saying your console is overheating, but it does sound like your console is dieing.

Re: The Official Rant Thread
As much as I would like that to happen...Zieon Eslador wrote:Remnant community project? MMORPG's aren't as complex as they may seem...
I'm referring to a quality MMORPG. Like, imagine World of Warcraft, but Eragon-related.
WoW was created by Blizzard, a company with hundreds of designers, writers, programmers, graphics designers, animation designers, etc.
I'm thinking of the full-scale world of Alagaesia, not just Palancar Valley.
But even if we could only have the valley, I'd still be ecstatic.
But anyways...
I would be willing to work on it. That's 1.
You appear interested to me. That's maybe 2.
I know minimal programming knowledge. Not sure what you know.
I do plan to go into game programming. I'm taking VB at school next year(only programming course they offer...), and even with high-school level VB, I'd be able to do jack.
And even if Grim was interested, if Jackson was interested, if xzodia, Prey, Sandwich, Supermodder, and DarkShallFall were interested (which I can almost guarantee you, at least half of them wouldn't be), that many people can't design World of Warcraft, even on a smaller scale.
There's so much to do.
There's the graphics. There's a physics engine that needs to be implemented(panic? hehe). There's animations. There's plot(which isn't necessarily all that important at the beginning, at least for me). There's figuring out how to implement the ancient language(spells, weapons, armor, wards, fighting system). There's permission from Paolini, although I don't imagine it'd be difficult. There's the fact that most people on this forum probably haven't read the books. Not to mention, people here might not like the books, and therefore wouldn't be willing to work on a game on it.
It's not that I don't want to work on it. I just don't think that a 10-people community project is going to achieve that particular goal.
I don't know. If anyone has any ideas, or thoughts. I'm certainly open to them. I actually do really want this 'remnant community project' to happen, but I'm reluctant, and not so naive to believe that it could actually happen. If anyone would work on this, maybe not now because you don't have experience or whatever, but in the future when you can actually work and dedicate yourself to something you feel confident you can do, let me know.
5 people in Palancar Valley would be hell of enough for me, if the game was ever created. People like the series. If it's a decent game, people will play it.Zieon Eslador wrote:Except for the MMO part.

Re: The Official Rant Thread
With an engine you are familiar with quality animations for 100 creatures/people would be around a months work(high priority). Models? Most similar games use four to eight bone structures for humanoids, those same 100 creatures/people would take about a month as long as the bone joints and a base structure was set up properly. Unfortunately, that familiar engine is the thing that took Blizzard several years to develop...
Of course, If we even started it completely serious I'd give it a 20% chance of actually being finished and a
10% chance of being relatively retail worthy. I'm a very generous person.
I haven't read the third book, I didn't realize it came out.
